Mission

Mission: To respond thoughtfully and responsibly to my experiences of drinking and dining at restaurants with regard to the quality, service, preparation, presentation and overall experience received thereat. The standpoint is one who respects the crafts of the chef and sommelier and who seeks to understand their choices in the kitchen and cellar and grow in knowledge. In this, I will seek to be fair, reasoned, direct and constructive and aim to keep my ego in check on our mutual journeys through the worlds of food and wine.

Lao Jui Lou in Taman Bukit Desa - solid tasty Ramen

Quick shout out for Lao Jui Lou in Taman Bukit Desa. We have come here a couple of times for lunch over the last six months or so and it has never failed to satisfy. A Japanese themed corner eaterie, we always go for the Cha Shu Ramen Soup with a side of Gyoza and a mug of Green Tea. Solid and filling and with great taste, it makes for a hearty fulfilling way to pit stop on carbs, soup and pork. Finest kind. No service charge so don't forget to tip.

PS our reason for coming to Taman Bukit Desa is the fruit stall just up the road from the restaurant. Consistently good quality produce (though you pay a bit extra for it) it is worth hunting down if you are a serious fruitie. Cherries from Washington and doughnut peaches from Spain along with Persimmons and Korean pears are among our choices when they come into season. Operator Steven has very good suppliers and does good trade with his regulars. His trademark phrase is "very sweet" and pretty much most of the time he is correct.
